What is Headway’s Provider Referral Program, and how does it work?
We created our Provider Referral Program to enable you to earn rewards for spreading the word about Headway to providers in your network and trusting us to support their practices. Your trust is extremely valuable to us, and we appreciate you advocating for Headway within your own community!
The program is simple – for each provider you refer to Headway who completes our intake process, you’ll earn our $250 referral bonus. There’s currently no limit to the number of providers you can invite to Headway, which means the more providers you refer, the more you can earn!
Did you know we have a separate bonus program for group practices on Headway?
If you currently run a group practice on Headway, or are considering it, you’ll earn $50 for each clinician you add to your group. For more information about starting or growing your group practice on Headway, please click here.
Who can I refer to Headway?
We’re currently able to support independently licensed mental health providers in any of the states Headway currently operates in. This includes therapists, clinical psychologists, and psychiatric care practitioners, including psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychiatrists.
Headway currently operates in the following states:
• California
• Colorado
• District of Columbia
• Florida
• Georgia
• Illinois
• Massachusetts
• Michigan
• North Carolina
• New Jersey
• New York
• Texas
• Virginia
• Washington State
If you know a provider licensed outside of those states, you can still refer them to Headway to be placed on our waitlist. Once we launch in their state, we’ll be sure to reach out, and you’ll earn your referral bonus if they complete our intake process.
How do I refer a provider to Headway?
You can always access our Provider Referral Program directly from Sigmund, your provider portal, here.
There are two ways to refer a provider to Headway:
- Option #1:
- Share their information directly with us
- Option #2:
- Share your unique referral URL with them
- In Sigmund, click Refer a Provider on the bottom left hand side of the page to access our Provider Referral Program.
- On the right side of the page, click “Refer a Provider Here” to access our referral form.
- Fill out the form to share the following information about your referral with us:
- First and Last Name
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Lincese Type
- Practice State
- Submit the form, and one of our Practice Consultants will reach out to your referral within 24 hours to schedule an initial call.
- In your Headway Provider Portal, click Refer a Provider on the bottom left of the page to access our Provider Referral Program.
- On the right side of the page, copy your unique referral URL.
- Share your URL directly with providers you know, or post it on social media if you’re an active user!
- When a provider clicks your URL, they'll be able to fill out their own information on our website. One of our Practice Consultants will reach out to them within 24 hours to schedule an initial call.
You can track all of your referrals directly from the “My Referrals” tab in Sigmund, your provider portal. If you’re having trouble referring a provider from your Headway Provider Portal, please reach out to us here.
We didn’t forget about you! If you know a provider who might want to learn more about Headway, you can also refer them to us and earn our referral bonus if they complete our intake process.
There are two ways to refer a provider to Headway, but first, you’ll need to set up a Headway account.
- Visit Headway.co to get started.
- On the top right corner of the page, click “Log in”
- If you already have a Headway account, log in with your credentials If you don’t have a Headway account yet, click “Create new account.”
Please note – You’ll need to verify your account via email. If you don’t see a confirmation email from us, be sure to check your Spam and Promotions folders.

Can I refer a provider who’s already been referred to Headway?
If you refer a provider after they have already joined Headway, you will not be eligible to receive our referral bonus.
If you refer a provider who has already been referred by someone else, the initial referrer will receive our referral bonus if they complete our intake process. Our Provider Referral Program is currently unlimited, so there are always more opportunities to earn a referral bonus!
What happens after I refer a provider to Headway?
Once you refer a provider to Headway, one of our Practice Consultants will reach out directly to schedule an initial call. If they decide to move forward with Headway, we’ll send them our intake form to start the sign up process.
How and when will I receive my $250 referral bonus?
You’re eligible to receive our referral bonus as soon as your referral submit their intake form!
- We’ll let you know once your referral has completed our intake process to confirm that you’re eligible to receive our referral bonus.
- You’ll receive an email directly from PayPal within 48 hours of your referral completing our intake process with instructions to access your referral bonus.
- Standard transfers from PayPal to your bank account normally take 1-3 days. If you have any questions about this process, PayPal’s Help Center is a good place to start.
In the meantime, you can always keep track of any referral bonuses you’ve received directly from the “My Rewards” tab. For providers, you can access this page in Sigmund, and for non-providers, you can access this page on our website here.
I don’t have a PayPal account. How else can I get paid?
At this time, PayPal is the only method we have in place to issue referral bonus payments.
Here’s some additional guidance on using PayPal:
- If you don’t have a PayPal account set up, it only takes a few minutes to create a free account here. Once you create an account, you’ll be able to quickly transfer any referral bonus payments directly to your bank account.
- If you receive over $600 in referral bonus payments from Headway, PayPal will also generate a 1099 for you in accordance with IRS requirements.
- Our team will send any referral bonus payments to the email address you have listed on Headway. If you’d prefer that we use an alternate email address for PayPal payments, please let us know, and we’ll update that on our end.
